ACADEMIC METHODOLOGY

The programme structure is developed such that it balances conceptual and leadership skill development. The focus is on the development of business analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills, positive attitude and leadership ability. The teaching and assessment methods aim to create a participant-driven learning environment, such that it encourages students to take greater initiatives and responsibility for their learning.

Teaching Methods

At IIMS, multiple teaching methods are used. Case analysis, project groups, business simulation and games, assignments, lectures and syndicates form the core of the learning programme. Courses are taught in classes of about 60 students. Students are divided in groups of 10-12 for syndicates and 5-6 for group projects .

Live Assignments

While in-class learning strengthens conceptual knowledge, practical learning equips students with the aptitude to work effectively in the competitive business environment. Thus, students are required as part of their curriculum to take up live projects from industry (apart from their summer training). These projects generally relate to their areas of specialization .

Case Study Analysis

At IIMS, apart from regular lectures and interactive sessions, great emphasis is laid on Case Study Analysis. This gives students the opportunity to study real life scenarios and equips them to handle situations by thinking about them through concepts that they have learned in the regular curriculum.

Group Projects

Students are required to take up live projects from industry in their areas of specialization. They analyze business issues, learn to develop solutions and decision options and in this process they develop action plans, professional attitude, skills and discipline. This is facilitated through groups of 5-6 students coming together for research, analysis of issues, presentations, corporate visits etc. This equips the students to handle group dynamics and inter-personal relationships effectively. It also makes them versatile with respect to team settings, as the same groups do not come together again. All group projects culminate in a presentation before the entire class so that the learning can be shared with everyone.

Business Simulations and Games

Several business games, simulations, role-plays etc. form integral part of IIMS curriculum. Highly trained faculty in real-life scenario simulations involves students. This makes students more competent and confident to handle similar situations in the competitive business environment .

Syndicates

Ability to work as part of large teams is also seen as essential to the development of students. To better imbibe this ability, students are frequently divided into 15-20 member teams or syndicates to work on research issues or analysis.
